Our Opportunity
Comcare, a Social Services Provider in Te Wai Pounamu, were looking to:
Properly understand and map the outcomes created by their Housing Facilitation Programme
Build a compelling and well evidenced case for seeking funding
Identify simple and meaningful measures of impact
Generate outcomes data that was simple to extract, aggregate, and report
Show their staff how the work that they do everyday contributes to the broader objectives and aspirations of the organisation
Against a competitive funding landscape and ongoing political shifts, Comcare knew that being able to understand and measure their impact was imperative to securing a sustainable future.
Our Approach
What we did
Develop a Theory of Change / Intervention Logic Model for the Housing Facilitation programme: We facilitated workshops with Comcare to develop a draft model and then validated this through carrying out interviews and surveys with programme participants. This helped us understand the changes that people experience as a result of being in the programme.
Identify meaningful measures: We collaborated with a range of internal teams to understand their processes, systems, and points of engagement with the programme participants. We designed indicators to evidence the outcomes and mapped out how these data points could be collected and integrated into Comcare's systems with minimal re-design or development work.
Calculated the Social Return on Investment of the Housing Facilitation programme: Using the Social Value International methodology and a range of international impact databases, we calculated the social value of the outcomes created by the programme and compared this with the cost of its delivery. This gave Comcare a compelling data point to showcase the financial return created by Housing Facilitation
Developed an Impact Report: bringing together all of these components - models, measures, stories, and data - we designed and developed a professional impact report for Comcare to use to tell their story to a range of potential audiences; such as funders, investors, community, partners, and staff.
